"As a writer, I’m deeply intrigued by an artist’s decision to work outside his or her native language. Such is the case with Mondrian, a pop quartet hailing from Paris, France. The band released their third EP Flood of Kool last week. The strings do the driving on the buoyant, six-track effort. On my favorite track, “More of the Sweetest Thing”, the band offers a glimpse into a love story. The listener is only provided images and is left to fill in the plot on their own. We can assume the affair, though brief, was intense and ends with the singer’s heart broken in the middle of nowhere. He’s left hoping that this might be the last of his poorly ended attempts at a higher relationship: “In the middle of nowhere / nowhere near a judge/ May this be the last of a thousand rows? / the last of a thousand rows / The last of the living roses.”Though their influence on the American music scene pales in comparison to their neighbors across the channel, French musicians have had some notable breakthroughs. "Le monde du clip est un univers de tarés qui rêvent de faire du 
cinéma mais qui n’ont pas d’idées assez longues pour faire un film de 90
 minutes alors ils font des clips pour leurs potes musiciens (et des 
pubs quand il faut remplir le frigo). Le dernier délire clipesque qui a 
retenu mon attention, a été réalisé par les espagnols du collectif NYSU pour les frenchy du groupe Mondrian et leur pop qui fleure bon les 60′s.

Cette vidéo pour le titre Last Breakfast on Planet Surf  (qui
 en fait date de plus d’un an mais mieux vaut tard que jamais) est un 
objet visuel pop, drôle, sexy et gerbant où une jolie fille en culotte 
prépare un repas en pensant à son ex qui l’a lâchement abandonné. Ce 
film atteint un tel niveau de délire visuel, je crois que les mots sont 
dérisoires, je vous laisse donc découvrir le clip en espérant que vous 
n’avez pas trop la nausée.

Éste consiguió el premio a mejor videoclip en el 7º certamen Nacional de videoclips, dentro del Festival de Cine de Medina del Campo. Además de una mención en el  Festival de Videoclips de Alcañiz. Con Mondrian han hecho otras creaciones como “Love, a Collison”, donde imaginación y realidad van de la mano y “Beware! The Killer!” o como la sinceridad está en todos lados."

Mondrian är ett ungt Parisband som spelar en
vacker klappklapp-pop. De bildades så tidigt som 2007. Men sedan dess har det
inte hörts så mycket om dem. Men förra månaden släppte de ytterligare en EP Whippersnapper.
Det är en catchy melodi vi får höra i mittenlåten Or Unicorn med
härlig popröst, stampvänliga trummor och en mysig stämma som körar. Låtarna är
enkla popmelodier och man vet exakt vad man får, inga onödiga utsvävningar här
inte men inga överraskningar heller. Jag hade gärna sett dem på någon liten scen
efter ett par glas rödvin, med randig tröja, svarta jeans och vita converse.
Bandet känns egentligen lite väl för tidigt 00-tal för att vara riktigt
intressant, men det är någonting som väcker minnen, åtminstone hos mig. Jag
gilla’rt. Skarpt. =

"Le choix de Florent Marchet :"Choix difficile à  faire que celui de ne retenir qu'un seul nom.  C'est injuste, cruel,  donc je ne le ferai pas. Même si le temps manque parfois pour bien  s'attarder dans les univers des uns et des autres, j'ai eu envie  spontanément de réécouter Cats on Trees.  J'ai pensé, même si à première vue cela peut sembler éloigné, à Shannon  Wright et le très beau binôme que j'avais eu la chance de voir sur  scène, binôme inattendu: piano batterie. J'ai aimé également réécouter Mondrian. J'ai hâte de voir ces deux groupes sur scène. Sinon j'ai également jeté mes deux oreilles attentives sur The North Odd Preppies, John Grape, Megrim.
